Should Texting Really Be a Part of Your Music Marketing?

Hypebot featured some interesting stats on text messaging last week. A Pew Study revealed the following:

“The average 25 to 34 year old texts 20+ times every day and 18 to 34 year olds text a whopping 55 times daily, according to a Pew Study.”  -Hypebot

With those numbers, text messaging should be a no-brainer, right?

I’m going to go out on a limb and say text messaging is NOT right for everyone.

Read on to find out if a text messaging campaign is right for you.

Make Your Merch Work Overtime

Selling merchandise is a time-tested income stream. From KISS to local upstarts, everyone does it to varying degrees of success. But many artists never see the value of these items past their invoices.

How-To-Win-Fans-Music-Marketing-Wes-DavenportIn the introduction to this series, I made several promises. I claimed this series would help you create meaningful relationships, improve your reputation, strengthen your influence, increase your ability to get things done, and properly handle criticism.

And top it off, I said I’d help you make measurable progress.

It may be less clear how to measure your listening skills or if you are making people feel important. Mashable and Social Media Examiner feature powerful tools to gauge other things, like site traffic and influence. But how do you measure authenticity?

Fortunately, I have a tool to help you take a good look at yourself in the mirror.

5 Steps to Win a Facebook Argument

How-To-Win-Fans-Music-Marketing-Wes-Davenport

Why prove to a man he is wrong? Is that going to make him like you? Why not let him save face? He didn’t ask for your opinion. He didn’t want it. Why argue with him? - Frank Gammond

Sometimes, it seems like the Internet hosts more arguments and flame wars than constructive and entertaining discussions. We constantly want our own worldview to prevail, and we’ll often argue to the point of smashing our keyboards and burning our monitors. This remains true even if we are wrong, as I frequently am.

We rarely change another person’s mind by arguing. Here’s what you usually accomplish by trying to prove someone wrong:

  • Take away their feeling of importance
  • Insult their intelligence
  • Question their judgement
  • Hurt their pride
  • Shake their self-confidence

Social networks give us a chance to engage in genuine conversations with an audience. Even so, I’ve seen too many altercations spring up on artists’ and companies’ own pages.
